NACAC’s 75th National Conference in Louisville is just around the corner. As the social media manager for NACAC I’m biased, but I think getting involved with the conference on social media is a great way to connect before, during, and even long after the event.
Check out my top five tips to get the most out of your national conference social media experience.
- Follow our social media channels and use our official conference hashtag — #nacac19.
Using the #nacac19 hashtag allows you to reach beyond your followers and audience and connect with fellow attendees, exhibitors, speakers, or even just those who are following along from home.
Following our official channels on Facebook (NACAC and NACAC National Conference), Twitter (@nacac and @NACACconference), and Instagram (@nacacheadquarters) gives you the most up-to-date information about the conference and offers a peek behind-the-scenes at #nacac19. We’re also available to answer questions you might have while you are on-site if you send us a message or tweet!
- Share knowledge and learn from others
You can’t possibly attend every education session that catches your interest, but you can follow along with them online. You can also share what you’ve learned at a session with the #nacac19 community.
Hear the perfect quote? Tweet it out. See a great slide? Snap a picture and post it. Share your takeaways and read everyone else’s.
- Participate in the #NACAC19PHOTOCHALLENGE on Instagram or Twitter.
I love our annual social media photo contest because it gives me a chance to see the conference through your eyes! This year we have 14 photo challenges and there are prizes for attendees who post photos of all 14, are the most creative, or include the most #nacac19 attendees in their posts.
This contest is available on Instagram and Twitter. Read more about the rules.
- Have conversations on- and offline!
Using the #nacac19 hashtag is a great way to connect online with your colleagues all over the world but take some of those friendships into the real world in Louisville. Need a lunch buddy? Want to find someone to sit with during the keynote? Put a call out with the #nacac19 hashtag and see who responds. One of the benefits of the national conference is the opportunities it offers for networking both on and offline.
- Take a moment to do a digital detox.
Staying connected at the conference is wonderful, but you’ll also want to take some time to let it all soak in. The Zen Den (one of my favorite spots!) is back this year, offering a quiet space to reflect and reset.
Ashley Dobson is NACAC’s senior communications manager for content and social media. She’ll be presenting a Tech Lab session at #nacac19 on the free tools you can use to up your social media game and a Career Hub session on using social media to build your personal brand. You can reach her at adobson@nacacnet.org.
