L. Jay Lemons recently shared tips for making the most out of campus visits.<\/p>\n<p>Lemons, president of Susquehanna University (PA) \u2014 a NACAC member institution \u2014 knows of what he speaks. In addition to leading a liberal arts institution, in recent years he\u2019s toured dozens of college campuses as a parent.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cHaving visited more than 50 colleges during my own children\u2019s search process, I\u2019ve been on the other side of that student-led tour,\u201d the father of four wrote in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/l-jay-lemons\/father-knows-best-admissi_b_9355632.html\">a <em>Huffington Post<\/em> column<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lemons went on to share four must-ask questions for students on the college tour circuit:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How much access do students have to faculty?<\/li>\n<li>How committed is the college to engaging students and getting them involved on campus?<\/li>\n<li>What\u2019s the space like?<\/li>\n<li>Does it feel right?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lemons also offers a piece of advice to anxious moms and dads: Let students have the final say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnlike our generation, these millennials value your thinking and judgment so very much,\u201d he notes. \u201cJust be sure to let them own the decision as they will be responsible for the educational experience they earn in the coming years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/l-jay-lemons\/father-knows-best-admissi_b_9355632.html\">Read the full column<\/a> and check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacacfairs.org\/learn\/search\/the-college-visit\/\">NACAC\u2019s campus visit tips<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Admitted writer\/editor Mary Stegmeir welcomes additional comments and story ideas at<a href=\"mailto:mstegmeir@nacacnet.org\"> mstegmeir@nacacnet.org<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor&#8217;s note: A version of this post originally appeared on Admitted in March 2016.\u00a0 Spring break is just around the corner at high schools across the country and many juniors will use the time to check out college campuses.
