Each institution will pay $25,000 a year to gain access to tools, resources, classes, campus surveys, and guidance from the University of Southern California\u2019s Race &amp; Equity Center. The effort is led by Shaun Harper, who served as the <a href=\"http:\/\/nacacadmitted.wpengine.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/2017\/09\/25\/shaun-harper\/\">keynote speaker<\/a> at NACAC\u2019s 2017 National Conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are tremendous racial inequities on the California community college campuses,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2020-06-12\/community-college-presidents-announce-alliance-aimed-at-combating-racism-on-campus\"> Harper told the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>. \u201cYou have a mostly white faculty teaching a mostly Latino, Black, Asian, and Pacific Islander population. Therefore the curriculum tends to not be reflective of those students\u2019 cultural histories and identities and interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the <em>Times<\/em>, the members of the new alliance will address \u201ctopics like hiring and retaining faculty of color, fostering inclusive classrooms, and integrating race across the curriculum.
