{"id":4439,"date":"2020-06-22T09:47:28","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T13:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nacacadmitted.wpengine.com\/wordpress\/?p=4439"},"modified":"2020-09-30T09:51:42","modified_gmt":"2020-09-30T13:51:42","slug":"colleges-find-creative-ways-to-celebrate-pride-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admitted.nacacnet.org\/wordpress\/index.php\/2020\/06\/22\/colleges-find-creative-ways-to-celebrate-pride-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Colleges Find Creative Ways to Celebrate Pride Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pride parades planned across the country this month were canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, but colleges are finding creative ways to celebrate.<\/p>\n<p>LGBTQ-themed Netflix watch parties, online drag shows, and shoebox parade floats are among activities organized to keep students engaged and supported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a lot of people who are going to be coming here \u2014 either physically or online \u2014 in the fall, and they need to know there is an active community here for them, that there is support,\u201d Frances Johnson, coordinator of the LGBTQ+ Pride Center at Texas A&amp;M University, told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/diverseeducation.com\/article\/178784\/\">Diverse<\/a><\/em>. \u201cGoing to college is scary enough, but when you\u2019re queer or from small (town) Texas or from come of these smaller areas, (college) may be your opportunity to come out\u2026It\u2019s about that representation and visibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>June 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of annual LGBTQ+ Pride traditions, according to the Library of Congress website.
