As one president wrote: \u201cMental health has become a major issue for retention and the general well-being of our students . . . This is in my top three areas of improvement for my college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>ACE surveyed over 400 college and university presidents to better understand how institutions large and small are navigating the challenge of student mental health and well-being.<\/p>\n<p>Other noteworthy findings from the survey include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Seventy-two percent of presidents reported they had reallocated or identified additional funding to address student mental health concerns.<\/li>\n<li>Ninety percent of presidents agreed or strongly agreed that their staff is spending more time addressing student mental health concerns than they did three years ago<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, more than half of all survey respondents reported needing additional tools to help them address mental health concerns on their campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Increased professional development or training, as well as assessments or tools to help students develop coping and self-care skills, were mentioned by respondents.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.higheredtoday.org\/2019\/08\/12\/college-student-mental-health-well-survey-college-presidents\/?_cldee=anNtaXRoQG5hY2FjbmV0Lm9yZw%3d%3d&amp;recipientid=contact-c924e271df1ae511ac970050569e5b20-e54f5f7cacd14aa69a92782c1fa1af6e&amp;utm_source=ClickDimensions&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=HENA%202019&amp;esid=4849f256-1cbd-e911-8113-005056866fb1\">Read more about the findings on ACE\u2019s <em>Higher Education Today<\/em> blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Admitted<\/em>\u00a0<em>writer\/editor Mary Stegmeir welcomes additional comments and story ideas at\u00a0<a style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/learning\/communities\/Admitted\/default.aspx\">mstegmeir@nacacnet.org<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eight out of 10 college presidents report that student mental health has become more of a priority on their campuses over the past three years, according to a new survey from the American Council on Education (ACE).
