But I have serious concerns about how my future school might be investing in fossil fuels and, if they can\u2019t be convinced to divest by student activists like me, how that might render my college education useless,\u201d Margolin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teenvogue.com\/story\/college-fossil-fuel-divestment-climate-crisis-make-education-useless-op-ed\">writes in <em>Teen Vogue<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She shares that she won\u2019t consider attending a college that actively invests in the fossil fuel industry or that won\u2019t share their investments publicly.<\/p>\n<p>Other students look for schools that explicitly contradict their values. Attending offers them the opportunity to work to change minds and\/or challenge their own beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Elyse Hutcheson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/08\/02\/education\/learning\/wrong-fit-for-college.html\">told <em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a> that her time at Hillsdale College, a Christian college in Michigan, helped her realize she held liberal beliefs and was agnostic.<\/p>\n<p>Jonah Shainberg said attending Notre Dame University (IN) as a Jewish man helped him discover how central his faith really was to his life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Notre Dame made me more Jewish,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/08\/02\/education\/learning\/wrong-fit-for-college.html\">told the <em>Times.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/read.nxtbook.com\/nacac\/the_journal_of_college_admiss\/summer_2019\/gen_z.html\">Gen Z and their unique relationship to higher education in the latest edition of <em>The Journal of College Admission<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ashley Dobson is NACAC\u2019s senior communications manager for content and social media.
