The Justice Department charged 50 people with participating in this scheme.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The alleged crimes included cheating on entrance exams, as well as bribing college officials to say certain students were coming to compete on athletic teams when those students were not in fact athletes,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/fbi-accuses-wealthy-parents-including-celebrities-in-college-entrance-bribery-scheme\/2019\/03\/12\/d91c9942-44d1-11e9-8aab-95b8d80a1e4f_story.html?noredirect=on&amp;utm_term=.87d6b3e3f07d\">according to\u00a0<em>The Washington Post<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an unfortunate example of the lengths to which people will go to circumvent and manipulate the college admission process, particularly to gain admission to highly selective colleges,\u201d Stefanie Niles, NACAC president and vice president for enrollment and communications at Ohio Wesleyan University, said of the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>She called them an \u201cextreme response to the commodification of the college admission process\u2014one that is focused on college acceptance as an end unto itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/news--publications\/newsroom\/press-releases\/nacac-urges-recommitment-to-integrity-in-wake-of-college-admission-scam\/\">the full statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Ashley Dobson is NACAC\u2019s communications manager for content and social media.
