Under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/knowledge-center\/professional-standards\/overtime-pay\/\">the new rule<\/a>, any salaried or hourly employee earning less than an estimated $50,400 annually would be entitled to time-and-a-half for work that exceeds 40 hours per week.<\/p>\n<p>The current cutoff for overtime is $23,660.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly\u00a0all of the 408 admission professionals surveyed by NACAC this fall reported that their institution had either finalized strategies to comply with the new rule or were on track to do so by the time the rule\u00a0was due to take effect.<\/p>\n<p>Top strategies included:<br \/>\n\u2022 Paying overtime during peak periods (53.9 percent)<br \/>\n\u2022 Adjusting salaries upward for certain employees (43.9 percent)<br \/>\n\u2022 Altering work schedules for non-exempt staff (37 percent)<br \/>\n\u2022 Using comp time (17.2 percent)<br \/>\n\u2022 Increasing travel time for senior employees (12.7 percent)<br \/>\n\u2022 Allowing employees to bank overtime (11.5 percent)<br \/>\n\u2022 Hiring seasonal or temporary staff (7.1 percent)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/globalassets\/documents\/publications\/research\/overtime-survey-summary.pdf\">Read more survey results<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/globalassets\/documents\/knowledge-center\/professional-standards\/overtime-pay\/overtimepay_onepager.pdf\">learn more about the new overtime rule<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Admitted writer\/editor Mary Stegmeir welcomes additional comments and story ideas at <a href=\"mailto:mstegmeir@nacacnet.org\">mstegmeir@nacacnet.org<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor&#8217;s note: This post has been updated to reflect the federal injunction.
