{"id":2483,"date":"2018-09-18T08:14:07","date_gmt":"2018-09-18T12:14:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nacacadmitted.wpengine.com\/wordpress\/?p=2483"},"modified":"2018-10-31T11:41:21","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T15:41:21","slug":"icymi-survey-of-counselors-reveals-strong-opposition-to-arming-educators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/admitted.nacacnet.org\/wordpress\/index.php\/2018\/09\/18\/icymi-survey-of-counselors-reveals-strong-opposition-to-arming-educators\/","title":{"rendered":"ICYMI: Survey of Counselors Reveals Strong Opposition to Arming Educators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School counselors overwhelmingly oppose efforts to arm educators as a response to gun violence in schools, according to new NACAC survey data.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly three-quarters of 2,251 counselors surveyed by the association in May and June reported being either \u201csomewhat opposed\u201d or \u201cstrongly opposed\u201d to policies that seek to arm teachers and other school staff.<\/p>\n<p>The data \u2014 gleaned from NACAC&#8217;s annual <em>Counseling Trends Survey <\/em>\u2014 was released Monday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cA school counselor\u2019s role is to support the educational process, providing vital services to students ranging from academic and college planning to social\/emotional counseling,\u201d NACAC CEO Joyce Smith said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/news--publications\/newsroom\/press-releases\/school_safety\/\">press release<\/a>. \u201cSchool counselors made it clear that their job is not to serve as an armed police force in the school.
