So they sent three first-generation college students, Esther, Ikie, and Estephanie, on a road trip around the country. The trip was turned into a documentary titled <a href=\"http:\/\/roadtripnation.com\/roadtrip\/beating-the-odds\"><em>Beating the Odds<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeating the odds is so much more than overcoming hardship\u2026it\u2019s about pushing forward,\u201d Ikie said in the film.<\/p>\n<p>On their journey around the US, the students listened to and learned from leaders including former First Lady Michelle Obama; Geoffrey Canada, an education reform activist; and Elaine Del Valle, a producer and playwright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t be a statistic\u2026Stand on your obstacle,\u201d Del Valle told Esther, Ikie, and Estephanie. \u201cIf you can get through that, you can get through anything,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film is free to watch on Roadtrip Nation\u2019s website. <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/archive.roadtripnation.com\/roadtrip\/v2\/beating-the-odds\/beating-the-odds-viewing-guide.pdf\">A discussion guide<\/a> for use with students is also available.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ashley Dobson is NACAC\u2019s communications manager for content and social media.
