My whole family was proud of me. And all of us were worried.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Join us Jan. 9 for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nacacnet.org\/news--publications\/publications\/NACACreads\/\">#NACACreads<\/a> discussion of Arce\u2019s book and the challenges undocumented students face as they make their way to and through higher education. Arce will participate in the hour-long Twitter chat, which kicks off at 9 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The author\u2019s parents brought her to the United States from Mexico on a tourist visa when she was 11. Despite the obstacles she faced as an undocumented student, Arce graduated from college and went on to become a Wall Street executive.<\/p>\n<p>She became a US citizen in 2014 and her work is now focused on helping immigrant youth succeed. Arce is the co-founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/ascendfundny.org\/\">Ascend Educational Fund<\/a>, a nonprofit that provides scholarships to students in New York City regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status.
